Beginning Adult Sculling Classes at SDRC - 2013

13 Hours, 6 classes. Fee $230, Weekend classes (Saturday & Sunday)

This course introduces sculling technique, terminology, and water safety using recreational singles. Small class size ensures individual attention and rapid progression. Students successfully completing this course are qualified to join the rowing club.

What to wear: Rowing has many moving parts. Appropriate rowing attire includes snug fitting clothes, so that they do not get caught in the rigging.

Prerequisites:

(1) On the first day of class, you must pass a functional assessment to determine your physical ability to participate safely in these classes. Rowing is a physically demanding and challenging sport to learn and will place a strain on your body.  The boats and equipment are designed such that are able to accommodate persons within a specified range of height, weight, and body size.  In general, the body weight limit is 230 lbs.  For your own safety, SDRC reserves the right to decline your participation in these classes (in which case you will receive a full refund).

(2) Must be able to swim 50 yards in the bay.

(3) Be prepared to take a “flip test” (self-rescue in and out of rowing shell) on the first day. Shower and changing facilities are available at the rowing club.

Class minimum: 3 (maximum 5)

Fee: $230, $50 deposit will reserve your place. Please send check payable to SDRC:
